Hello, I’m Libby

I'm a self-taught mixed-media artist based on the Gold Coast, Australia. My work draws on elements of Pop Art, nostalgia and conceptual still life, bringing familiar objects together in unexpected ways.

I'm inspired by the strange experience of being human, particularly the ways we see ourselves, how others perceive us and the expectations we create along the way.

Through playful compositions, familiar imagery and a healthy amount of humour, I explore thoughts and experiences that aren't always easy to put into words.

I'm drawn to the balance between the familiar and the unexpected, creating work that feels playful at first glance but has something a little more thoughtful sitting beneath the surface.

From Thought to Thing

It usually starts with a thought.

A thought, a feeling or an uncomfortable experience that I can't quite shake. I pull it apart, find the humour in it and piece it back together through familiar objects and imagery.

The Making

Then it's onto digital sketches, a few revisions (or twenty) and eventually onto canvas. I work with acrylic paint, oil pastel and a hint of stitching.

Finally, Finished

Then comes the very uncomfortable experience of sharing my inner dialogue with the world. And that's where your interpretation begins.
